My favourite quotes

Some inspire, some resonate with me, some are relatable while some are just plain beautiful:
  • Tell me your story. I’ll be waiting, pen in hand, blank surfaces before me, and your meaningful silence, unheard by anybody else, will create ripples in my mind and markings upon the page. Other people will say that I made it up, because anything else would be impossible, an absurdity, a perceived lie. But to me, it is a hidden truth in another world, a reality closer than our skins, with you acting as the doorway. So I’ll wait for you. Even if you don’t show up, you’ll always know where to find me. – Ethan Matisa
  • “Physical feelings are just that—physical. But attraction of the mind, heart, spirit—that’s miraculous. And when you choose to love another unconditionally, without judgment, and regardless of what’s in it for yourself, that’s the fairy tale.” – from an article on Thought Catalog
  • Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life…You give them a piece of you. They didn’t ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like ‘maybe we should be just friends’ turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.” ― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 9: The Kindly Ones
  • ‎”Love, all alike, no season knows nor clime, Nor hours, days, months, which are the rags of time. ” – The Sun Rising by John Donne
  • “When you’re different, sometimes you don’t see the millions of people who accept you for what you are. All you notice is the one person who doesn’t.” – Change of Heart
  • “I remember my mother telling me that, when she was a little girl in Catholic school, the nuns used to hit her left hand every time she wrote with it. Nowadays, if a teacher did that, she’d probably be arrested for child abuse. The optimist in me wants to believe sexuality will eventually become like handwriting: there’s no right way or wrong way to do it. We’re all just wired differently. It’s also worth nothing that, when you meet someone, you never bother to ask if he’s right- or left- handed.

After all: Does it really matter to anyone other than the person holding the pen?” – Zoe, Sing You Home

  • “I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But as much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking. The world is so exquisite with so much love and moral depth that there is no reason to deceive ourselves with pretty stories for which there is little good evidence. Far better it seems to be, in our vulnerability is to look death in the eye, and be grateful everyday for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides.” – Carl Sagan
  • 人生就是一列开往坟墓的列车,路途上会有很多站,很难有人可以至始至终陪着走完,当陪你的人要下车时,即使不舍,也该心存感激,然后挥手道别。——千与千寻
  • “So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be.” – Charlie, Perks of Being a Wallflower
  • “And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.” – Charlie, Perks of being a Wallflower
  • “Prime numbers are what is left when you have taken all the patterns away. I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them.” ― Mark Haddon, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
  • “And it occurred to him that there were two parts to being a better person. One part was thinking about other people. The other part was not giving a toss what other people thought.” ― Mark Haddon, A Spot of Bother
  • “I’d much rather pretend I’m somewhere else, and any time I open the pages of a book, that happens.” – Delilah, Between the Lines
  • “What makes a treasure a treasure, is how rare a find it is, when you need it the most.” – Marina the Mermaid, Between the Lines
  • A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a little boy’s shoulders to let him know that the world hadn’t ended. – Batman, The Dark Knight Rises
  • ‎”The real purpose of life is just to be happy—to enjoy your life. To get to a place where you’re not always trying to get someplace else. So many people spend their lives striving, trying to be someplace that they’re not, they never get to arrive.” – Dr. Wayne Dyer
  • It is quite simple really. Being always transcends appearance- that which only seems to be. Once you begin to know the being behind the very pretty or very ugly face, as determined by your bias, the surface appearances fade away until they simply no longer matter. Any appearances that mask the reality will fall away. – The Shack
